Friday night - the Pennisular
Friday night was the start of the TT and we intended to kick the ride off with a quick 200kms and 5,000 points.
Before this could happen we had to sign-in at the TT HQ (Hampton Motorcycles), have the bikes given the once over and listen to Mike's rider briefing. At 6pm we all mounted up and a surprising number of us headed off in the same direction...

On our way out of town the GPS's again got all confused and we had to ignore them for a while until we were properly on our way. The roads were surprisingly busy and we ended up sitting in behind a bunch of other TT riders until they turned to take a slightly different route to the check point.
The weather was absolutely perfect, the roads outstanding and the views sensational as we turned off onto the Summit road and continued our way Eastward. We then had to turn off on a very narrow and steep road to drop down into the small settlement of Okains Bay. Then there was another little climb over a hill before dropping down once again to the Stony Beach checkpoint where there were already a number of bikes jostling to get their "evidence" picture.
Photo's taken we turned back the way we had came but when we hit the Summit road we turned the other way and started to make our way to Akaroa. Once again we were treated to fabulous views and more great riding. The GPS's once again tried to take us down a gravel short-cut but we declined and found our own way into Akaroa where it was time to grab some nice fish and chips and take in the sights of beautiful Akaroa.
The ride out from Akaroa was more of the same - great roads and magnificent scenery - except that it gradually got darker and darker. We finished off Day One of the TT by filling the bikes again so we had full tanks for our early start on Saturday morning.
